Malaysia, being a
multi-racial and multi-religious country, sees quite a few
celebrations of religious and cultural significance being
practised. Some are national holidays, while others are specific
to a few states. Whatever the origin, one thing that is common
to all the celebrations are that they are rich in cherished
traditions and meaningful rituals. Over the years, these cultural
festivals have come to reflect the diversity of the people
in Malaysia.

Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix
3rd till 5th April 2009.
Catch the 11th edition of F1 action in Malaysia. Witness the blazing action at one of the most high-tech circuits in the world. With the extreme hot and wet conditions at the Sepang International Circuit, the skills of the world's finest drivers will be tested to the limit.
Cheng Beng (All Souls Day) 5th April 2009
This is one of the major events in the Chinese calendar, which is observed by Chinese communities all over the world. Cheng Beng, which is also known as All Souls Day (not to be confused with the Catholic All Souls Day) or "Qing Ming", falls on the 5th of April every year except on a leap year, when it falls on the 4th.
Ten days before, during or ten days after this date, the Chinese community will visit graves of deceased family members and ancestors to pay their respects. Graves are weeded and cleaned. Offerings like paper money are made to the deceased family members and ancestors. Dont be too surprised if the offerings made these days have gone so high tech that the living offer replicas of massage chairs, reflexology machines, hand phones, clothes and other items one would require for a comfortable life after death.
This is the Sikh New Year, but due to the consonance of the lunar calendar the date could occasionally fall on 12th or 14th April. During this time, the Sikh bible called the "Guru Granth Sahib" will be read continuously for 48 hours. The closing ceremony will end with a meal for the entire congregation and visitors alike.
Indian New Year 14th April 2009
It is supposedly day that Lord Brahma (the creator) started creation. Generally prayers are offered to the gods and it is also regarded as an auspicious day and for merry making, indicative of how the rest of the year will be. Generally the temples in and around KL will be packed with devotees offering prayers.
Selangor Water Festival 24th till 26th April 2009
Held at the Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sepang, Selangor, activities are organised for a splashing fun time for the whole family. Activities organised include boat racing, kayaking, underwater treasure hunts and sandcastle building.
